I've posted a picture on the side of my blog to remind me of what my husband and I would like to have when we retire. We absolutely LOVE the lake, and would love to own a lake house. We went to Smith Mountain lake in southern VA last summer, and were in awe of it's beauty as the Blue Ridge mountains surround it. Prices of homes on the lake are quite expensive, so we would have to be able to pay off our home in retirement. After writing my last post about home improvements, I started thinking about what I really want. A brand new kitchen? or just replace the cooktop, and put more money for the lake house. I go back and forth on this, because I'm a big believer in living in the present, but at the same time I don't want to jeopardize our dreams for the future.
This will be something I will have to consider. My husband and I are both in our mid-40's so retirement is not too too far off.

Retiring at the lake sounds like a wonderful dream!! And it's a great idea to post that picture and look at it often... that way your goals and dreams are always close by to keep you focused.
