The season of Lent...

Lent - a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving...

The season of Lent is upon me, (as I am Catholic) which is a remembrance of Jesus going into the desert for 40 days fasting and praying. I've always approached this by "giving up" chocolate or some bad habit, but instead of praying, fasting and giving, I tended to eat more, buy more, and give less. Since Lent is a time for soul searching, reflecting and taking stock of my life, I am choosing this year to actually participate. I am using this year's 40 days to go within and really figure out what is important in my life.

How does this relate to my finances? Well, I've decided to take a 40 day financial "fast" and not buy anything that I don't actually need. I have decided to make this only for me. My husband and children are not included in my spending fast, although I will not buy them unnecessary items. Whatever I would have spent on items, I will give to charitable organizations, and of course praying that I will be able to accomplish this!

Publishing this here on this blog will help me to stay honest. So, you should not see Starbucks on my daily spending, or lunches at work, or clothing purchases (for me), etc.

Keep me honest, fellow bloggers! I'll need all the help I can get! And hopefully, I will come out of this Lent feeling refreshed, both spiritually and financially.
