Gas bills...

Ugh. Today I received my Texaco/Shell bill AND my Washington Gas bill. My husband and I put our gas fill-ups on a gas card so that we can keep track of what we spend. A normal month would be about $225.00. My husband drives 60 miles a day, but he uses a hybrid car and gets close to 45 miles per gallon. I drive the gas guzzeler Honda Pilot, but I only drive 16 miles to and from work. I fill up every 10 days. Well, today's bill was $286.47. That's more than $50.00 higher than what I usually pay. But I did go back and forth to JMU to pick up my daughter for the weekend, which probably explains the extra $50.00 in gas, but it's also the increase as well.

The other bill, the bill to heat our home was $288.00. Last year at this time, the bill was $277.00. Now that is not that much of an increase, but our weather was so much milder this year. I cannot imagine what the bill would have been if the weather was bad!

The $11 is probably just the difference in rates. Natural Gas is higher right now. The other one is a bit of a ninja bill! Sneaky, good lesson when you review te month!

Those are big increases yeah... thank goodness you have wiggle room in your budget.

I've been hearing that bread is also going to go up dramatically (wheat producers have been planting corn instead... ethanol pays more than wheat I guess!!!) so they say we can look forward to a $5 loaf of bread sometime by the end of the year. Dunno if I believe it'll get that high, but it is enough to worry me a bit...

Racerx,
Yes, it was slightly off my radar screen, I'll pay cash when I'm making those trips in the future..so they don't sneak up on me!

CS,
Oh my gosh, that's a lot for bread! We'll have to bring out the bread machine for sure!

Nate,
Thanks for stopping by! I look forward to reading your blogs! (You have a few of them! :))

Hi Sharon - gas prices are on everyone's mind - Canadian Saver and I posted on the same topic on the same day! I cringe when I see Hubby's fill-ups hit the Discover card - they're approaching $60+. Ridiculous! Comparatively speaking, US gas is cheaper than Europe and Canada, but it's painful just the same.
