Birthdays can blow a budget...

I had mentioned earlier that it is my daughter's birthday, and I sent in cupcakes to school. I had all of the ingredients, so it cost me nothing. Her sister was bringing in a sub for her for lunch. I gave her $5.00 towards it. She is having a sleepover with friends at the house tomorrow evening. Didn't put together goodie bags, but had a great idea for a game and goodie bag....$62.00 later.....My only saving grace to that is that she's not having a "bowling party" or a party that costs a lot of money...only the price of snacks and breakfast in the morning, so I completely justified getting Webkins (the baby ones) as an exchange game and a take home "goody" for her five friends who are coming over. Hmmmm. Guess I could have gotten some lollipops and called it a day....I guess I have a long way to go in the frugal department. I'm sure $62.00 would have gone a long way on a cc. I will definitely be more careful.

I used to think of it like this: The girls are going to give your daughter presents that were purchased to the tune of $15-$25. $62 for 5 girls is a reasonable amount to spend on goodie bags. Plus you're going to feed them too.

And you're right. Bowling or some other activity outside the home would cost more.

Thanks for your perspective, I feel a bit better! (And my daughter was thrilled with the idea!)

Well, at least you're not going to Chuck E Cheese! My daughter turns 5 this week and we are having her party at Chuck E Cheese. She wanted the same thing last year and I tried to get around it by going on the night of her birthday with our immediate family (me, hubby, bday girl, 2 sisters). Then the following weekend we had some of her school friends over for cake and ice cream.

She had a good time but this year asked if she can please have a "real party at Chuck E Cheese". So, to Chuck E Cheese we go next weekend with 10 little girls. (At a price tag of $12 per kid!)

So, don't feel too bad about the $62! :)

And thanks for checking out my jewelry website and adding a link to my blog. :)

Hi Sharon. Good for you. Brad and I have high hopes this year as well. We're planning on doing the Your Money or Your Life program. So far, not so good. The girls are still home and it's time to stock them up on all the stuff they need before heading back to school Next week though...
